To coincide with Antwerp Pride (5–9 August 2026), Annie Gentils Gallery presents UNI, a group exhibition bringing together LGBTQIA+ artists and allies.

At a time when LGBTQIA+ rights and freedoms are increasingly under pressure around the world, UNI affirms the importance of artistic expression, diversity, solidarity and inclusion. L’OrphelinDocumentary filmDirection and CameraL’Orphelin - Luc Tuymans (Louvre, 2025)Short documentary &#124; Directed by Alex Salinas &#124; Commissioned by the LouvreCommissioned by the Louvre Museum, this short film documents a unique and temporary intervention by Belgian painter Luc Tuymans, who was invited to create a cycle of four murals directly onto the walls of the “rotonde Valentin,” a transitional space in the heart of the museum’s 17th-century painting galleries.The film captures both the execution and atmosphere of an unprecedented gesture: the first contemporary wall painting made on-site in the Louvre in recent history. The film highlights the tension between permanence and impermanence, focusing on Tuymans’ conceptual approach to memory, erasure, and the museum as a layered historical space. It combines observational footage with subtle visual storytelling, staying true to the quiet power of Tuymans’ work and its fleeting presence within the museum walls, scheduled to be painted over by mid-2025.

As a composer, their music in spirit is experimental, taking seemingly incompatible influences and mixing them into their self-invented musical language. They break the rules of genres, cross-pollinating styles at will into their oeuvre of dark ‘undanceable’ dance music. Their ingeniously crafted compositions reimagine standard forms. Old and new technology is an integral part of their process, exploring the possibilities of analogue and digital systems, music machines, and recording systems. Dubbed the illustrious prince of the Antwerp underground, Hantrax creates transformative music championed by connoisseurs and barbarians alike.

Their collection, which includes their piano compositions and their edgy electronic tracks, is available on Palermo Records, Ekster Label, Roulette Records, Jack Playmobile, and Jheri Tracks. In October 2019, Hantrax released their new double LP Paroxysm with Palermo Records. Off stage, Hantrax can be found hosting a modernist music program called Klankmeanders with their father, Hendrik Van Geel, on Radio Central and can be heard on their radio show titled Headroom on The Word Radio, which exposes cool, innovative music of all categories.

Working at the intersection of the arts, Hantrax has been involved in numerous creative collaborations and productions. Highlights include work with visual artists Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Pieterjan Ginckels, and artist duo Arocha-Schraenen, as well as performances for the theater company Abattoir Fermé and for the classical orchestra of Michiel De Malsche as a soloist.

Hantrax realized from a young age that they wanted to pursue a life of music above all else. They began their music journey studying the cello at the age of 9 and then quickly gravitated towards the piano, beginning formal studies at the age of 12. They followed intensive classical piano training with Dorothea Haers and jazz piano with Christoph Erbstösser. Along with private instruction, they attended the prestigious Antwerp Jazz Studio. In parallel, during their volatile adolescent years, they were captivated by electronic synths, hip-hop, anarcho-punk, and new wave, fine-tuning their own style, figuring out how to command the stage, performing in bars, concert halls, and festivals. Light years since, they continue to build a music sphere of relentless experimentation that constantly defies boundaries and pushes the parameters of sound and performance.

Antwerp’s most unpredictable underground Composer and Performer Hantrax announces the release of his Double LP 'Paroxysm'. Winding &#38;nbsp;from new wave to rave with splashes of metal, Paroxysm is a fictive soundtrack of an imaginary cab ride taken on an odd night out. Each side of the album portrays its own mood, its own ‘paroxysm’ of thoughts as the night darkens.Following on his last 12 inch ‘Ticker Tape Parade’(2015), and his classical piano album Gazebo Compositions (2017 / Ekster label), Paroxysm is Hantrax’s most cohesively experimental album to date.
Between Midnight and AuroraFascinated by film soundtracks, Hantrax creates his own narrative inspired by the 1980’s movie Exterieur, Nuit directed by Jacques Bral. The movie takes place one night, when a jazz musician and his writer friend encounter a beautiful taxi driver who takes them on a whirlwind ride of love, mayhem, and heartbreak.
Paroxysm, set between midnight and aurora, follows the protagonist getting into a taxi to go to a club but as the night progresses ends up somewhere else, never quite satisfied but somehow it all turns out okay as dawn breaks.&#38;nbsp; Hantrax employs cinematic techniques to create an Escher-like Labyrinth of melodic synths, screeching fake guitars, thought bubbles, a duet with a parrot, a broken lamp, and the roars of cheering crowds.
Key TracksThe album starts off with the desolate slow moving “Midnight Encounter” and continues with the poppy dark duet “Second Thoughts” with its driving bass line featuring Martha Maieu of Blackie &#38;amp; the Oohoos on vocals. In “Cult's Reality Check”, Hantrax replicates the muffled sound of music heard outside a club while loitering in a parking lot. Inside, guest vocalist Cult Jones dives deeper into fantasy land. The intermittent gong of the tam tam is ominous; the drip drip of a leaky faucet is disturbing.The eerie title track “Paroxysm” is stripped of beats or drums. A nervous DX-7 synth fluctuates over recognizable rave sounds to construct a crescendo of one frequency to another.The cab ride ends at “Aurora”, a Slayer inspired electronic metal synth single punctuated with punk rhythms. Hantrax’s layering of computerized guitar riffs and drums mimics a metal band playing in an empty warehouse is effective.

Lead singlesTwo singles will be simultaneously released. ‘Han Komt Zo” interlaces a collage of crowd noises in a melancholic melody. Yet the crowd is roaring into an empty void. It captures the anxiousness of agoraphobia. The track gives a nod to the Dutch West Coast Sound and the Belgian 90’s Club X sound.
“One Eighty” from the first LP is an unhurried dark track that stars a heavy Linn Drum; its video created by photographer Aleksei Kazantsev is a shot on location in an abandoned garage box at night.

Antwerp’s Ekster Records proceed Elko B’s flight of fancy with Gazebo Compositions, a sophisticated suite of solo piano compositions by Han Swolf aka Hantrax, whose previous releases have swerved from braindance electro to more cyberpunkish concerns recently on Ticker Tape Parade for Palermo Records. Gazebo Compositions appears to by-pass his electronic inclinations and find the artist returning to his roots at the piano stool, where he turns inspiration from a video-work by Flemish filmmaker Jef Cornelis into a series of ambiguously nuanced mood pieces reflecting on themes of youth and its inherent emotional turmoil.The eight pieces are almost exclusively informed by jazz and classical schooling and performed on winged piano, clearly demonstrating Swolfe’s instrumental aptitude (he was accepted at the prestigious Antwerp Jazz Studio aged 15) and virtuosity in its carefully plotted narrative and play of harmonic shadowing.However, if we’re correct, it’s possible to also detect the subtle presence of electronics underlining a number of the pieces, as with the swooning bass behind Composition in Cmin, and which shockingly prang out from Dor de Casa, whilst the LP’s title piece - and head-turning highlight - Conservatory features heavy electronic processing to radiant and absolutely immersive effect, in a strong way recalling the electro-acoustic nuance and duality of the Belgian composer, Dominique Lawalrée, who was recent subject of a crucial retrospective. Ticker Tape Parade is the abstract synthesis of Swolfs' sources of inspiration within an eclectic kaleidoscope: the origin of the New York ticker tape parade and the eccentric fair ‘Sinksenfoor” held each year in his hometown of Antwerp. Imagine 1870, when the ticker tape machine, the first digital communication medium used by stockbrokers on Wall Street, was in full use. These unique narrow strips of paper remained in use over a century and served into the 70s in American parades as cheap confetti.

Now imagine 2016; wild roller coasters, swirling rides, a haunted house, mirrors, dazzling lights, a cacophony of sound in a lunaresque park in full swing along the quays of Antwerp.&#38;nbsp;

Swolfs combines these two clashing influences into an eclectic pageantry of dark melodies, unsettling synths, fairground sounds and raunchy beats. "Ticker Tape Parade" is intense, edgy, and brooding, with a touch of madness, and with a touch of the transcendent.
